Growing up, Anderson got to see Van Halen thrice in Huntsville: '80 and '82 with Roth, and '86 on the band's first tour with Hagar, for the "5150" album. Interestingly the first of these concerts included the opening act Talas , rockers whose bassist Billy Sheehan would go on to be in Roth's supercharged first solo band. Asked to compare the '80s and '82 shows, Anderson says, "They were both incredible. But they were meaner in '80 and hungrier." He particularly dug performances of the track "Romeo Delight" at both shows.
